Trama Fashion Shoot 2009

As I mentioned earlier, I am currently the volunteer and business coordinator of a fair trade women’s weaving cooperative called Trama Textiles. Well, I was only really supposed to be the volunteer coordinator, but since I spend a lot of my time doing all the export orders for Trama, I’ve decided to temporarily give myself the title of business coordinator until we actually find someone to permanently fill that role.

Anyways, instead of pursuing more abstract or hoighty-toity goals, I have decided to spend most of my time concentrating on one goal: increase business for the cooperative. Not only is the fall a slow tourist time in Guatemala every year, but due to the recession this year business sort of sucks for everyone. So of course, the cooperative could use more business: it ain’t very fair trade if there isn’t any work at all.

I’ve been pursuing this goal through a number of ways: trying to get into contact with possible trading partners, soliciting lots of orders for the Christmas season, and fixing up the website / online store (still very much under construction.)

As a fun part of this whole process, some of the volunteers and I thought it would be great to do a fashion shoot to show off some of the products in a more personal way. This ended up leading to two incredibly fun and goofy afternoons. Some of the fruits of this labour are below… for more photos, you will have to wait until I complete the new online store.
