My new “job”

Do I have writer’s block? It’s quite possible. In addition to not finding the motivation to finish my third and last round of revisions on my final Masters project (due in ten days) I haven’t felt like writing, neither on here or on other projects.

Have I become complacent and lazy? I keep telling myself that I’d like to write, that I’d like to publish some semi-successful book and live off the proceeds. This isn’t going to happen if I continue at the same pace as I am at right now.

An update: I am working as the volunteer coordinator of Trama Textiles. Using the word “working” loosely, as I seem to be the only unpaid volunteer coordinator in Quetzaltenango. Part of me wishes that I had held out for something paid, but Trama is right up my alley, so it’s alright. As a women’s weaving cooperative, it combines two things that I am interested in: gender and development and textiles. Everyday that I hang out in the textile store I feel happy, because I love to be surrounded by beautiful cloth.

I haven’t had any volunteers the last two weeks, so I have had to do pretty much everything myself. But for right now it makes me happy doing the grunt work: running around Xela with posters and flyers and helping customers in the store. Hopefully once I get more people to work with I will be able take on more long-term projects: grant-writing, publicity, expanding exports, fundraising. We’ll see.
