How to invent words in Spanish

Still sick, sick, sick as a dog with the flu that’s going around Xela. I have barely left bed in three days. Nothing much on the news front, as a result.

In class last week, my teacher taught me the proper way to invent words in Spanish.

The formula?

Take a noun, any noun. Best if it’s something specific.

Remove the last vowel.

To create a verb, add “ear” to the end.

To create an adjective, add “eado.”

So, from cerveza, you can make the verb “cervezear” – to go out for beers. Or, “cervezeado” – to have drunk too many beers?

From gringa (white girl), you get “gringear.” This, explained my teacher, is what cazagringas (white-girl hunters) do.

Or, my favourite: chocobanano. Observe, in the following photograph estoy chocobananeando:

Now, excuse me while I go painkillerear.
